Almost everyone claims that they don't care about physical appearance, but rather that it is what's on the inside that truly matters. Personality, intelligence, way of thinking are all much more important. I guess I agree with this, but only to some extent. I think people are sadly mistaken if they think that how they look doesn't matter in the slightest, because it does. Most of the time, our body, physical aura is what attracts people to us in the first place. At least this is the case for me. Although I don't let ones physical appearance decide how I feel about them, I do take it into consideration when I'm meeting the person for the first time.
Physical appearance doesn't just have to concern beauty and perfection. I think the way one dresses also is a major factor in how we first perceive an individual we don't know.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that people shouldn't rely simply on their personality or level of intelligence to get by, but shouldn't ignore this either. But it's important that one makes an effort to look decent and presentable, because looking physically "good" comes with many benefits!
