Bomb Blast in Central Bangkok

<Written on August 17, 8:30 PM, so some information might be outdated by the time you read this post, but has been written for all BKK-ers out there>

  1. A bomb went off in Ratchaprasong, the commercial hub of Bangkok.
  2. The explosion took place near the Erawan Shrine, a very popular tourist destination (for both foreigners and locals).
  3. The scene is littered with damaged motorbikes, broken glass, and dead bodies.
  4. So far, at least 18 people have been reported dead (4 of whom are foreigners) and 117 people injured, most of whom are tourists. Previous records mention 27 dead, but this was a social media rumor.
  5. At least 45 vehicles have been damaged by the blast.
  6. A bomb was found attached to a pole in front of the shrine at the Ratchaprasong intersection, one of Bangkok's busiest intersections, at 7:10 PM.
  7. A second bomb was found and was being handled with by the city's bomb squad at 8 PM.
  8. Currently, the BTS is operational, but many skywalks have been closed.
  9. All schools, financial institutions, and government offices are allowed to be OPEN tomorrow. However, at 9:40 PM, some schools announced that they would still be closed the next day despite reports.
  10. At 9 PM, the Thai government announced that it would not declare a state of emergency in the city and that citizens should carry on as per usual.
